Ethical Conditions For Exchanges of Capital
As a participant and potential recipient of a physical object in the legacy of my heritage, my work, and my life source, I ask that you honor the following:
That you honor the object (physical, emotional, intellectual or otherwise) that you receive from me and understand it as a legacy of Black, Trans, Queer, Femme, Disabled, (etc.), histories as they have iterated themselves throughout history;
That you are trusted to be a steward of these histories and traditions, and that you understand the ways in which they express themselves in the world and evolve;
That the object you have obtained should be facilitated from myself to you, and thereafter only through non-monetary transactions of capital in order to combat art-capitalism and conquest (which leads to further trauma of aforementioned histories);
And that you will continue to consider and aid these histories not only through my creations, but also by aiding in the liberation of these groups of people and their allies throughout time, as one sees fit for the sustainability of the cultures that have taught and held me, and that now teach and hold you.
These conditions ensure a minimal amount of harm to me and my communities, and allow for us to re-imagine how we obtain and protect artist and their creations. Thank you for considering, internalizing, digesting, and utilizing these facets of care.
